About The Shackleton Trio

Together they play an exciting blend of folk, Americana, and self-penned material instrumentally influenced by British, American and Scandinavian folk traditions, with a regional twist from their native East Anglia. Following the success of their debut album ‘The Dog Who Would Not Be Washed’, they are excited to be heading back out on the road with a brand new release ‘Fen, Farm, and Deadly Water’.

Recorded at Grange Farm Studios in the heart of the Norfolk Fenlands, the album continues to showcase the band’s eclectic musical background. Locally sourced material includes a Fenland song from pig farmer Fred Rooke, the haunting 1611 poem Powtes Complaint, as well as the Cry Of The Radish Boys At Great Yarmouth, given a distinctly bluegrassy twist. The album also showcases the trio’s instrumental prowess, with original compositions The Stanford and Bolton Lodge, alongside Karen Tweed’s Only Viveka, and Swedish polska the Penknife Killer. Original songs by Georgia top off an impressively varied yet coherent album that seamlessly blends a broad musical palette.

About Steve Tilston

Born in Liverpool and raised in the Midlands, Steve made his recording debut in 1971 with the classic An Acoustic Confusion and has been turning out quality albums ever since.

Life by Misadventure, And So It Goes, Solo Rubato and Such and Such all featuring first-class song-writing, quintessentially English in style and typically Tilston, marking him out as one of this country’s finest writers.

The instrumental Swans at Coole is testament to his guitar virtuosity. Though known as a songwriter, Steve has always had an ear for the tradition and included new interpretations of old favourites on his original recordings. Of Many Hands is his first “all-traditional” album; with unique arrangements of timeless classics.

There’s also a “best of” anthology, The Greening Wind and a live album Live Hemistry recorded on tour with Fairport Convention. Back on song-writing form, he released Ziggurat in 2008 from which A Pretty Penny made it into Acoustic Magazine’s top 50 songs.

The Remi Harris Trio

Friday 16th November 2018 – a particularly warm welcome back to the Remi Harris Trio, who quickly sold out last time they played a barnstorming concert at the Hinckey ACT.

Remi Harris is an exciting guitarist from the UK who’s unique style draws inspiration from Gypsy Swing, Jazz, Blues, Rock, Electronic and World Music.

With special guest Mick Mangan.

About Remi Harris

He has toured worldwide as well as performing at Buckingham Palace, Montreal Jazz Festival, BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall with Jamie Cullum, on BBC 4 Television and live on BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 3.

In his live shows Remi plays an eclectic mix of original compositions, improvisations, jazz standards and new arrangements of music from Django Reinhardt, Jimi Hendrix, Wes Montgomery, Charlie Parker, Peter Green and many more. He plays a variety of acoustic and electric guitars and the shows are interspersed with his commentary about the history of the music and instruments he’s playing.

Primarily self taught with the help of his Dad’s guitar magazines and records, Remi started playing at the age of 7, initially inspired by rock and blues guitarists of the 60s and 70s such as Jimi Hendrix, Peter Green and Jimmy Page. In his late teens he developed an interest in jazz music, in particular artists such as Django Reinhardt, Wes Montgomery and Stan Getz. Since then he has been growing a reputation for blending all of his influences into his own individual style of playing.

”an incredible guitarist” Jamie Cullum, BBC Radio 2

Máire Ní Chathasaigh and Chris Newman

Friday 28th September 2018 – we welcome Máire Ní Chathasaigh and Chris Newman the Hinckey ACT.

“This celebrated duo took the place by storm. Stately Carolan tunes, jazzy Django-ish numbers, dazzling Doc Watson style flat picking fliers, driving Irish dance tunes – this pair can nonchalantly do the lot. Guitar players applauded and went sadly home to burn their instruments!”
The Belfast Telegraph.

With special guest Paul Sherlaw.

About Máire Ní Chathasaigh and Chris Newman

The virtuoso partnership of England’s premier flatpicking guitarist and “the greatest Celtic harper of our age” (LIVE IRELAND) has by now brought its unique musical vision to twenty-two countries on five continents. Chris and Máire have performed at over 175 folk, Celtic, arts, harp and guitar festivals in Europe, the USA and Australasia and have given almost two thousand concerts in venues large and small – from the tiniest of historic churches in England, Germany and Italy to palaces in Kyoto and Istanbul, London’s Barbican, Sydney’s Town Hall and the Philharmonie in Cologne.

Together they have created one of the most distinctive voices in modern acoustic music. Their six duo and five solo CDs, instructional books and collaborations with many other luminaries of the Celtic, folk, swing jazz and bluegrass worlds express both the depth of their commitment to tradition and an eternally playful, curious and adventurous spirit.

Máire is harp and voice soloist with the New English Chamber Orchestra and the Choir of New College Oxford on John Cameron’s Missa Celtica (Erato Disques); her singing features on the Goldcrest film Driftwood and her harping on Dan ar Braz’s Gold Disc-awarded CD Finisterres (Sony). They’re featured on the Polygram USA CD and associated PBS TV special Celtic Harpestry.

The Earl Trio

Friday 18th May 2018 – we welcome the Earl Trio back to the Hinckley ACT.

Acoustic and slide guitars and a mixture of original songs covering Americana, country and blues.

With special guest Richard Matthews.

About The Earl Trio

John started playing at the tender age of 6 when he asked his parents for a guitar, which was a surprise to them as they are not musical! He started learning chords from books and found a fascination in electric guitars as well as a love of rock music.

Singer/songwriter Stuart Earl started writing songs in 2001. He formed ‘EARL’ with Lyndon Webb and wrote the songs for his 1st album ‘My name is Earl –The Album’.

The duo expanded into a 4 piece band and regularly play gigs and festivals across the country. Based in South West and Wales they play acoustic and slide guitars and a mixture of original songs covering Americana, country and blues.

The second album ‘Peanuts & Monkeys’ was released in 2013. Stuart and Lyndon were joined by Michael Messer, slide guitar master and album co- producer along with Richard Causon (Tom Jones, Ryan Adams). It features pedal steel legend BJ Cole on three of the songs. The rhythm section features the talents of Andy Crowdy on Bass guitar and double bass, and Simon Price on drums.

The album was recorded ‘live’ at Leif Storm Studios, London in the summer of 2013. It comprises 11 original songs written by Stuart Earl.

Great North

Friday 16th June 2017: we welcomed New Zealand folk artists Great North for an evening of excellent music at the Hinckley ACT.

Great North play folk music with a bit of Bruce Springsteen-inspired Americana thrown in. Over the last eight years, they’ve cemented themselves as one of New Zealand’s hardest-working and most accomplished independent acts, playing gigs in bars, halls and tin sheds from Auckland to Okarito.

Special guest Steve Adams.

About Great North

Between shows, they released three albums, two of which – 2012’s Halves and 2014’s Up In Smoke – won Folk Album of the Year at the New Zealand Music Awards.

The band, which is centred around husband-and-wife duo Hayden and Rachel Donnell, recently travelled to the United Kingdom in search of larger sheds in which to perform. Their live show is filled with the usual stuff: regret, nostalgia, faith, and love – all set to harmony and harmonica.
