Kevin Dempsey and Karen Tweed
A fine evening’s entertainment was on offer on the Friday 18th November 2011. The Hinckley ACT welcomed Kevin Dempsey and Karen Tweed for the first time.
Playing her 72 bass Pigini piano accordion, Karen straddles traditional Irish to classical, in a uniquely haunting, emotive, yet vibrant style. Singer/songwriter/guitarist Kevin is a true craftsman, whose warm, lyrical style, and fresh, rhythmic approach have brought collaborations with Dave Swarbrick to Percy Sledge!
About Devin Dempsey…
Kevin’s multi-facetted career is testament to his talent as a guitarist, singer, songwriter and record producer.
His uniquely wide range of professional experience in both the UK and the USA provides the bedrock for his unique range of skills. Kev is not only a talented solo performer but also an ensemble player of outstanding ability.
He is sought out by many other musicians who enjoy not only his company but also know that his craftsmanship will always seek the most sensitive chord, the perfect arrangement, the ultimate lyrical sound or sheer driving rhythm, all to blend seamlessly into great pieces of music.
About Karen Tweed…
In Karen’s own words:-
“I play a 72 bass Pigini piano accordion supplied by the Music Room, Cleckheaton Yorkshire England and sometimes the melodica.
“Irish traditional music was my first love, but I’ve also delved into Scottish, Swedish, Danish and the music of New England through some great collaborations down the years… and between tours I teach both privately and at workshops and folk degree courses.”
Karen currently is collaborating in duos with Timo Alakotila, Johnny Coppin, Paul Hutchinson and Kevin Dempsey; she has a new trio ‘Hell Said the Duchess’ with Hannah James and Becky Price – she also is developing her larger scale projects ‘Circa Compania’ and ‘The No 1 Ladies Accordion Orchestra’.
