About Clive Carroll

Clive’s masterful compositions feature influences mined from the delicate cadences of Elizabethan lute classics, the imaginative eccentricity of Frank Zappa, visionary classical composers such as Bartok and Ligeti, and hints of jazz and Delta blues!

Clive made his musical debut at age two as a banjo-strumming cowboy singing nursery rhymes, and went on to earn a 1st Class Honours Degree in Composition and Guitar from the famed Trinity College of Music in London.

He has toured and worked with guitar greats such as John Williams, Tommy Emmanuel, Xuefei Yang, Ralph Towner, and John Renbourn – as well as pop icon, Madonna!

Acoustic Guitar Magazine calls Clive, “Probably the best and most original young acoustic guitarist/composer in Britain”, and Total Guitar Magazine includes him in their “Top 10 Best Acoustic Guitarists of All-Time”.

Clive’s latest solo CD, “The Furthest Tree”, has been described as “…sensational instrumental music that knows no boundaries”, and, “…a classic recording in the field of guitar music”.

About Wizz Jones

Inspired by hearing Big Bill Broonzy and Ramblin’ Jack Elliot, Wizz Jones learnt his guitar licks from the likes of Davy Graham and Long John Baldry whilst playing in the coffee bars of London’s Soho in the late 1950’s.

He then followed the time-honoured buskers’ trail from the streets of Paris to the markets of Marrakech during the early 1960’s and returned to Britain with a unique acoustic guitar style, an eclectic repertoire and a ‘right hand worthy of Broonzy’!

John Renbourn, Clapton and Keith Richards have all named him as an important early influence and in May 2012 Bruce Springsteen opened his Berlin show with Wizz’s song ‘When I Leave Berlin’.

With a career now spanning 60 years Wizz continues to tour on the acoustic folk and blues circuit, usually solo but sometimes with his son Simeon on sax, flute and harmonica.

Reg Meuross

Friday 21st September 2018 – we welcome Reg Meuross to the Hinckey ACT.

During 2017 Reg was described by Mark Radcliffe on BBC Radio 2’s Folk Show as a “brilliant singer songwriter with a social conscience” and he toured the length and breadth of England, Scotland and Wales as well as delighting audiences in South Africa, Spain and Portugal.

With special guest Steve Adams.

About Reg Meuross

Reg’s clever and imaginative lyrics have earned him the title of  “Master Storyteller” (PennyBlack Music) and led Mike Harding (Mike Harding Folk Show) to introduce him onto the stage of The Royal Albert Hall as “one of the finest singer-songwriters this country has produced”.

Whether it’s a village hall or the Albert Hall, Reg brings to the stage a collection of extremely beautiful songs, performed with humour and depth, and sung with the voice of an angel. Reg has that rare gift of being able to touch people, through his songs and performance, on a really human level. His words and music paint pictures that remain with the listener long after the song has been sung.

Many will know Reg for the extraordinary intimacy of his live solo performances, and it’s the countless requests at these unique events for ‘the one that sounds just like what we’ve just heard’ that have inspired the production of this distinctive and entirely solo album of new songs.  After 10 album releases Reg Meuross has returned to the solo format which inspired him to write and sing in the first place.

Vikki Clayton

Friday 27th July 2018 – a very warm welcome back to the Hinckley ACT for the wonderful Vikki Clayton.

“Crystal clear vocals” – The Guardian.
“Peachy voiced, enchanting” – Mojo.
“No mean songwriter” – Rock n’Reel.

With special guest Dave Kirk.

About Vikki Clayton

In the early 80’s, the fun began. Invited to sing with Ragged Heroes, a cult folk rock band, Vikki  thrived.

“I’d found my forte. I’d always kicked around with rock bands and played in folk clubs but here was a chance to combine my two favourite musical loves.”

“Ragged Heroes Annual” was released to much acclaim and notice was taken of Vikki’s  lovely voice. They were invited to perform at one of the early Cropredy festivals in 1984 and gigs started to escalate. However the band drifted apart and eventually called it a day because “we were eight in number and our bar tab usually came to more than our fee”.

Then somebody sent Fairport Convention a copy of Vikki’s album “Lost Lady Found”. At the same time Jerry Donahue heard Vikki sing and was moved to tears because she sounded so much  like Sandy Denny. What became of these two events was a long period of appearing with Fairport Convention, fronting the newly formed Fotheringhay – amusingly known as “The Nerve” and forming her own band featuring stellar performers Clive Bunker, Fred T Baker and Chris Conway.

So six solo albums later and  many appearances on  other recordings Vikki is proud to release “Messenger”.

The Earl Trio

Friday 18th May 2018 – we welcome the Earl Trio back to the Hinckley ACT.

Acoustic and slide guitars and a mixture of original songs covering Americana, country and blues.

With special guest Richard Matthews.

About The Earl Trio

John started playing at the tender age of 6 when he asked his parents for a guitar, which was a surprise to them as they are not musical! He started learning chords from books and found a fascination in electric guitars as well as a love of rock music.

Singer/songwriter Stuart Earl started writing songs in 2001. He formed ‘EARL’ with Lyndon Webb and wrote the songs for his 1st album ‘My name is Earl –The Album’.

The duo expanded into a 4 piece band and regularly play gigs and festivals across the country. Based in South West and Wales they play acoustic and slide guitars and a mixture of original songs covering Americana, country and blues.

The second album ‘Peanuts & Monkeys’ was released in 2013. Stuart and Lyndon were joined by Michael Messer, slide guitar master and album co- producer along with Richard Causon (Tom Jones, Ryan Adams). It features pedal steel legend BJ Cole on three of the songs. The rhythm section features the talents of Andy Crowdy on Bass guitar and double bass, and Simon Price on drums.

The album was recorded ‘live’ at Leif Storm Studios, London in the summer of 2013. It comprises 11 original songs written by Stuart Earl.
