About Sunjay

With a relaxed and confident manner, vocal style and mastery of his instrument he walks onto a stage and addresses the audiences though he is sitting down to play music with a group of close friends; a completely natural approach for a young man who picked up the guitar when he was just 4 years old and hasn’t put it down since.

Sunjay’s style has that natural drift between folk and blues and both camps have recognised his obvious flair. There have been a clutch of award nominations, including winning the Wath Festival Young Performers Award. He also made the final selection for the BBC’s Young Folk Award in 2012, had three nominations at the Exposure Music Awards 2014 and was also recognised by the 2014 British Blues Awards.

Drawing from a rich, musical and cultural background it is hardly surprising that Sunjay has quickly become recognised as one of the UK’s rising stars. His performances have been described as “mature & confident”, while his guitar playing has been hailed as “superb, brilliant, experienced, intricate & faultless”. Sunjay clocked over a hundred tour dates in 2013 supporting the likes of Steeleye Span, Martin Simpson, Passenger, and Terry Reid. With three albums already to his name, (‘Seems So Real’ 2011, ‘One Night Only’ 2013 and ‘Sunjay’ 2014) Sunjay has just recorded his fourth release (“Black & Blues” released 30th November 2015).

Clive Carroll

Friday 15th November 2019 – we welcome Clive Carroll to the Hinckley ACT for a highly anticipated return visit.

Acclaimed guitarist and composer Clive Carroll has created a sound world all his own, with a signature blend of warmth and humour that belies his dazzling technical skill.

With special guest Lily Neill.

About Clive Carroll

Clive’s masterful compositions feature influences mined from the delicate cadences of Elizabethan lute classics, the imaginative eccentricity of Frank Zappa, visionary classical composers such as Bartok and Ligeti, and hints of jazz and Delta blues!

Clive made his musical debut at age two as a banjo-strumming cowboy singing nursery rhymes, and went on to earn a 1st Class Honours Degree in Composition and Guitar from the famed Trinity College of Music in London.

He has toured and worked with guitar greats such as John Williams, Tommy Emmanuel, Xuefei Yang, Ralph Towner, and John Renbourn – as well as pop icon, Madonna!

Acoustic Guitar Magazine calls Clive, “Probably the best and most original young acoustic guitarist/composer in Britain”, and Total Guitar Magazine includes him in their “Top 10 Best Acoustic Guitarists of All-Time”.

Clive’s latest solo CD, “The Furthest Tree”, has been described as “…sensational instrumental music that knows no boundaries”, and, “…a classic recording in the field of guitar music”.

Wizz Jones

Friday 20th September 2019 – this was a welcome return visit for the incomparable Wizz Jones.

Acoustic guitarist, singer songwriter and bluesman.

With special guest Guy Rogers.

About Wizz Jones

Inspired by hearing Big Bill Broonzy and Ramblin’ Jack Elliot, Wizz Jones learnt his guitar licks from the likes of Davy Graham and Long John Baldry whilst playing in the coffee bars of London’s Soho in the late 1950’s.

He then followed the time-honoured buskers’ trail from the streets of Paris to the markets of Marrakech during the early 1960’s and returned to Britain with a unique acoustic guitar style, an eclectic repertoire and a ‘right hand worthy of Broonzy’!

John Renbourn, Clapton and Keith Richards have all named him as an important early influence and in May 2012 Bruce Springsteen opened his Berlin show with Wizz’s song ‘When I Leave Berlin’.

With a career now spanning 60 years Wizz continues to tour on the acoustic folk and blues circuit, usually solo but sometimes with his son Simeon on sax, flute and harmonica.
