Michael Chapman

Friday 18th November 2016: we welcome Michael Chapman for another much anticipated return visit to the Hinckley ACT.

“I had an art college education and on a rainy night in 1966 I went into a pub in Cornwall, but I couldn’t afford to pay to go in. So I said, I’ll tell you what, I don’t want to stay outside in the rain, I’ll play guitar for half an hour for you. They offered me a job for the rest of the summer and I’ve been at it ever since.

With special guest Chris Coleman.

About Michael Chapman

“Michael Chapman was never just a singer-songwriter – his gritty brand of guitar based songs span folk, ragtime, jazz and blues… it’s on the tracks which feature Chapman’s magnificently bleary vocals that this album really scores. Hell To Pay and Only Pretend are outstanding tracks, that world-weary voice singing words of bitter experience. This man is so laid back that he makes JJ Cale sound like he’s on helium.”

This self-styled old white blues guy from Yorkshire is one of the most under-rated heroes of our time. With his uniquely English melancholic perspective and emotive guitar style he deserves wider recognition.

Stefan Grossman

Friday 18th July 2014 – the first ever visit of Stefan Grossman – one of the most influential blues guitarists of all time! And all tickets were sold!

Stefan Grossman is a “venerated, iconoclastic and respected acoustic blues figure of mega-proportions.”

About Stefan Grossman

Stefan Grossman is an American acoustic fingerstyle guitarist and singer, music producer and educator, and co-founder of Kicking Mule records. He is known for his instructional videos and Vestapol line of videos and DVDs.

Grossman studied fingerstyle blues with the originals – Rev Gary Davis, Mississipi Fred McDowell and Son House and in the 60’s he brought his guitar to Britain influencing and playing with a range of musicians from Bert Jansch and John Renbourn to Eric Clapton.

He’s a master of a range of styles – ragtime guitar, country blues guitar, finger-picking guitar – and possibly the most influential musician in the field, because from 1967, when he released “How To Play Blues Guitar” he’s been the source for aspiring acoustic guitarists all over the world.

In 2008 C. F. Martin & Company honoured Stefan Grossman with a Custom Edition guitar, the HJ-38 Stefan Grossman Custom Signature Edition, adding his name to an illustrious list of guitarists who have been so honoured.
