About Eleanor Turner

Since her London concerto debut at the age of fifteen, with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields conducted by Daniel Harding, British harpist Eleanor Turner has been earning a worldwide reputation for her recital, concerto and chamber music performances.

Recently, Eleanor has performed at the Berlin Philharmonie Kammermusiksaal, the Musiekgeouw Aant Ij in Amsterdam, the Wigmore Hall in London and she is looking forward to performances this Summer (2014) in New Orleans and Sydney. Eleanor has won numerous international awards.

In the 2007 European Harp Competition she won First Prize, at the Dutch Harp Competition in 2010 Eleanor won Third Prize and the Peutz Audience Award and a year later, Second Prize in the Gaudeamus Interpreters Competition in Amsterdam.

Nowadays, Eleanor enjoys sharing her wealth of experience with her students and mentoring them through their own challenges, whilst continuing to study with many great musicians internationally. Eleanor studied with Daphne Boden at the Royal College of Music Junior Department, then later with Alison Nicholls; hugely inspiring preparation for a lifetime of music.

Eleanor is constantly innovating with the harp, creating and commissioning new music for both the acoustic and electro-acoustic harps.

About Steve Hicks and Lynn Goulbourn

Whilst Lynn has had no formal training, singing has been a passion throughout her life and more recently she has enjoyed attending vocal and challenging harmony workshops in Cumbria and Shropshire, led and inspired by Maddy Prior and Abbie Lathe.

Steve was 13 when he started playing guitar. Motivated by his dad’s promise of a decent guitar, Steve agreed to take lessons. Early tuition was in the classical genre and then later, he studied fingerstyle jazz guitar with Duck Baker. Nowadays you could expect to hear Steve, seemingly effortlessly, play classic ragtime, swing jazz, blues, Celtic, early and modern classical pieces… all with an ease that will leave you spellbound!

About Maria Barham

West Midlands based musician Maria Barham sings, plays guitar, dabbles with other instruments and occasionally writes songs.

As a singer/acoustic guitarist, she is just as comfortable playing covers in a restaurant or noisy bar, as she is playing her own or traditional folk songs in a quieter venue. She will change her material to suit the location, situation, event. with the odd surprise thrown in, depending on how the evening is going.

In Any Order

Friday 13th January 2017: we welcome back Hinckley ACT favourites In Any Order.

In Any Order are Steve (melodeon, whistle, bouzouki), Jerry (bouzouki, banjo), Chris (guitars, mandolin) and Helen (bodhran). Vocals are shared, with Helen and Steve usually leading, supported by rich harmonies.

Special guests – F and F.

About In Any Order

They’ve been together 16 years, running their local club and supporting many events over the years.

The name came from an introduction one night when the MC was anxious to get their names in the right order and was told any order would do – it stuck!

Material comes from a wide range of genres – traditional/contempory folk, country, 60s pop- they’ll have a go at anything. But it’s the harmonies that give them the greatest pleasure, and they hope will do the same for you.

They have also produced a CD called “Pick a Card”.

F and F special guests at the Hinckley ACT

Specials guests – F and F

Known colloquially as F and F (to avoid confusion!), Frank Johnson and Fiona Maurice-Smith are two local folk musicians and performers. F plays guitar, sings and writes the songs, whilst F plays the accordion, sings and generally livens it all up!

Usually they perform as themselves but sometimes they adopt their busking personas of “The Two Lovable Tramps”! Together, in desperation, they perform their songs to any appreciative audience in the hope of raising a smile and a free cup of tea! Lots of wry humour, the odd tear and impeccable musicianship, a sort of folk music meets the good old days! And they both sing their hearts out, as they’ve got a lot of heart to give!

A mix of original music and original versions of old songs. Lots of opportunity to sing along, a veritable sunshine machine on a cloudy day.

F and F – putting the joy back into enjoyment!
