Flossie Malavialle

Friday 19th June 2015 – we welcomed Flossie Malavialle to the Hinckley ACT for the first time.

Flossie is a French singer who has been based in the North East since July 2002. Recent tours have taken her as far as Holland, France, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Hong Kong, Tasmania and Australia.

With special guest Nigel Beck.

About Flossie Malavialle

Flossie Malavialle is a French singer who started getting involved on the folk scene in 2001 while she was on a teachers’ exchange in the North East of England.

In the last 9 years, her profile has gone from strength to strength, playing at folk clubs and festivals all over the UK and beyond.

Her collection of 9 albums is a reminder of how much work and dedication she has put into her music career: from well established folk songs to jazz standards, blues numbers to Edith Piaf and Jacques Brel’s classics, her wide répertoire always seems to suit every taste.

She was chosen by successful folk duo Show of Hands to support their 2009 County Town Autumn Tour and has been acknowledged as an upcoming talent on BBC radio 2 by Mike Harding who chose to play her live rendition of Jacques Brel’s “Amsterdam” and described it as one of the best versions he had ever heard.

She also supported Fairport Convention on their major UK “Wintour” between January and March 2010. She teamed up with Keith Donnelly for the occasion; together they are known as “Dark Horses”. Their eponymous album, which is a collection of Keith’s compositions sung by Flossie, has been available since the end of January 2010. Flossie started 2011 with a bang with her first ever solo European tour where she performed in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands in January and then she did an extensive tour of Australia with Keith between March and May where they both had a fantastic, successful time!

In 2012, she toured Holland for 10 days with Chris Parkinson and Scotland solo for a week. She also recorded her 10th album with Paul Donnelly to celebrate her 10 years living in the UK. The album is called X and has been available since the end of October 2012. If you would like to find out more about Flossie’s albums, upcoming concerts and more, go to www.flossie-malavialle.co.uk

Gerry Colvin

Friday 17th April 2015 – a welcome  return to the Hinckley ACT for Gerry Colvin.

Gerry Colvin is a writer of great substance who is able to give us something that has been largely missing in English Music for a long time. “His subjects and characters are clearly defined and his songs create strong images and stories which can make us both laugh and cry in the same breath.”

About Gerry Colvin

In the 1970’s Gerry joined pop band ‘The Man Upstairs’. They released three singles and toured with The Smiths.

In the early 1980’s he co-founded and fronted the legendary John Peel favourite skiffle-cowpunk indie outfit ’Terry & Gerry’. This seminal band toured Europe and the USA and appeared on countless Radio and TV shows including “The Tube” and “The Old Grey Whistle Test”. Their five singles and album all reached No.1 in the indie charts. They wrote numerous theme tunes for Central TV and were the subject of a 30 minute documentary by the legendary film maker Norman Hull, which aired on British Television in July 1986. The quirky portrayal of their unique skiffle music and beloved Birmingham can be viewed here.

In 1995 Gerry co-founded the five piece folk band Colvinquarmby. They released six critically acclaimed albums and were voted best band at the prestigious Fairport Convention Cropredy Festival in 2009. In 2010 they won the Hancock Award for ‘Best Live Folk Act’. In May 2013 Gerry was invited by New York producer and Robert Plant song collaborator Dave Barratt to record ‘Revolution’ for the ‘Beatles complete on ukulele’ album and website.

In 2013 Gerry released a self-penned solo album ‘Jazz Tales of Country Folk’ and is now working on his next CD ‘Six of One half a Dozen of the Other’.

About Vince Freeman

It all started with a broken guitar covered with a black bin liner! Christmas day, and a last minute stocking filler was the moment that literally changed Vince’s life.

After a few years ‘cutting his teeth’ in local music venues Vince became a full-time musician. Since then his voice and songs through his career have earned him critical acclaim and opportunities few signed artists receive.

In 2008 Vince received UK wide approval for his work winning two awards at the 2008 UK INDY’s from a field of over 100,000 artistes. The result of which culminated in a live performance in Las Vegas for PEPSI and The Deep Rock Drive free concert series.

After the mayhem Vince moved to France to spend time writing and recording (he has even written his first song in French!). He has spent the last 3 years honing his skills as a producer and songwriter and is now looking forward to returning to the UK in 2012 when he hopes to release his own definitive album.

2013 has seen Vince doing featured vocals on Wally Lopez’s album ‘Follow Me’ and Monkey Safari’s track ‘Coming Down’, as well as continuing to work regularly with world renowned songwriter Ian Dench.
