Friday 25th September 2015 – Si Hayden made a welcome return to the Hinckley ACT – this time performing for the first time on stage with David MacGregor.
Si has appeared on BBC1 television with Rob Halligan, played live with Mobo award winner Soweto Kinch & guitar master Clive Carroll and has composed soundtracks for theatre, films and BBC radio 4.
David is a world Jazz guitarist and composer from Scotland who is now based in Mexico City.
A self-taught musician who wrote & recorded his first solo instrumental ‘Steel Happenings’ in 1998 & has since followed with a further 28 albums, some of which praised by the likes of Guitarist Magazine describing him as an acoustic virtuoso. In total he has featured on over 70 albums including guitar compilations with Bumblefoot, Will Ackerman, Alex De Grassi, Dave Martone and Christoph Godin.
In 2008 he joined as guitarist for Joe O’Donnell of early 70’s folk rock band East Of Eden and session violinist for the likes of Rory Gallagher to name but a few. Joe went on to write & record acclaimed 1977 album ‘Goadhals Vision’ that featured the master bluesman Rory and Jon Field among others.
Remaining fiercely independent ever since signing his first music contract from early myspace music exposure, Si set up SilveryRecords. The self-rolling label now exists as a collective of 13 artists with a sister company Dbeats Records.
In 2008 Si collaborated with award winning poet Jon Morley & drummer Ben Haines to write the music for jazz/poetry album ‘Backra Men’ that acquired critical praise by legendary performance poet Benjamin Zephaniah. The jazz trio then released ‘Uncorked’ which captured the trio on an improvised set at the prestigious ‘Guinness Cork Jazz Festival’ in Ireland.
David is a virtuoso solo finger style World-Jazz guitarist and composer from Scotland. For many years he was based in the UK playing in several bands. In 2009, after having a lesson with the award-winning guitarist Martin Taylor, he decided to concentrate on an international Solo Jazz Guitar career.
With a career spanning over 12 years as a professional performing musician, David has worked in partnership with worldwide figures such as Adam Rafferty, Funky fingerstyle guitarist; Ahmed Dickinson, Cuban Classical guitarist; Alison Affleck, award winning Jazz vocalist; Marcus Bonfanti, Blues guitarist, “Tony Abaddon Bray”, Ex Venom drummer and Calum Mackie, Bombskare saxophonist.
The entrance fee for the evening was £8 for members and £9 for non-members.
The event started at 8.00 pm, with doors opening at 7.30 p.m.
